QLD Ready Reader Volunteer Program

Would you like to make a difference by supporting children’s reading?
Parents, carers, grandparents, neighbours and community members are warmly invited to participate in our school’s Ready Reading Volunteer Program to help our students to grow and develop through reading. Parents and carers are encouraged to talk with their children’s grandparents about their interest in becoming a volunteer.
Training to be a Ready Reading Volunteer is being offered through a joint initiative of the Department of Education and Volunteering QLD – and the state-wide launch of the training program is going to be held right here at Belmont State School!
The training, which will provide volunteers with the skills and knowledge to improve literacy for children, will be delivered across two sessions: Thursday 21 June and Thursday 28 June, in our school’s Multi-Purpose Centre (MPC). Registration starts from 9:45am, with training to commence at 10:00am and finish at 12:30pm. Light refreshments will be provided. While there is no cost involved, please note attendance at both sessions is required.
Following training, there will be an invitation to offer an hour each week – either by volunteering at Belmont State School or being involved in another primary school’s program. The Working with Children Check process will be explained and organised during the training and potential volunteers are asked to bring with them photo ID.
The training will include information about the essential components for learning to read, how to engage and support children in the reading process and the use of effective reading support strategies. Anyone interested in supporting children’s reading and fostering a love of reading in children is encouraged to attend even if a commitment to becoming a volunteer cannot be made at this time.
To register or for more information please contact Michele Sinclair, Head of Student Support, either by email: or phone 3843 9333 by Monday 18 June. Further details can be accessed through Volunteering QLD at:
